Hey!My name is Jan and I am from Germany.
For about eight months now, I have been living here in Victoria, South Texas. Unfortunately, that also means that I only have two more months to go. The closer it gets to the point that I have to go back, the more I look back and realize what a great time I have had.
It has been a year of many new experiences, of finding new friends and becoming a member of a new family. My American mother, Laura, who cordially welcomed me into her home and into her heart, has been eager to give me as many great things to remember from this year as possible. Together we have been exploring Texas, visiting places like the space center in Houston or the Alamo in San Antonio, going to concerts and musicals and many things more.
For the first time I have an older brother (since I “only” have two younger sisters in my German family). Anthony, 26 years old, has been a great buddy, fashion/event adviser, and every now and then a teaser (as he is supposed to be as an older brother) and it is always a lot of fun to hang out with!
My friends have made my time in my American High School the greatest, most eventful and most unique school year in my life. I am sure that some of those friendships will last a very very long time, if not for life!
Texas has been the most awesome home state for me. And who would have expected that, since I favored the New England states in my application for AYA program.
The more extreme weather, the wilderness that is waiting just outside of town with animals which people in Germany only get to see in zoos, and my friends and family here, who I all love very much, made the Lone Star State my second home on this planet. I want to thank everybody who contributed to this amazing experience from the bottom of my heart!!
Greetings from Texas
